Before choosing a Paraguayan account, ask each bank which identity documents it accepts, how it checks your activity and source of funds, what the account can do and what it costs.
Opening an account is part of settling in, not an automatic result of obtaining residence. Banks apply identification controls and offer different products. Good preparation helps you compare options and avoid incomplete applications.
Define what you need the account for
Personal spending, international client payments and company operations require different features. List currencies, transfers, cards, limits and digital services. Paraguay's Central Bank publishes information on current and savings accounts, including basic savings accounts; a basic product is not equivalent to a business or multi-currency account.
- Everyday payments and card use.
- Domestic or incoming international payments.
- Savings, currency and operating limits.
Prepare identity and source-of-funds evidence
Ask what the bank accepts at your immigration stage: passport, residence card, Paraguayan identity card or other records. Be ready to explain your activity, income and source of funds. A bank may request additional proof under its policies.
- Valid identity records.
- Contracts, invoices or income evidence where relevant.
- Address and activity details requested by the bank.
Compare written terms
Request current terms for maintenance, withdrawals, transfers, exchange rates, limits and support. Keep a backup payment method if the account you need cannot be opened immediately. Verify the bank before sharing complete documents or credentials.
- Total cost of use, not just opening cost.
- Features needed for your activity.
- Support while travelling outside Paraguay.
How Paraguay360 can help
We can help prepare your file and compare the questions to put to banks. Each bank decides approval and conditions; we cannot promise an account will be opened.
